7-Minute Chemical-Free Makeup Routine + GIVEAWAY!!

October 28, 2015

Simple.

In this season of sweeping crumbs, wiping noses, playing teacher, managing a business, and loving life, I find that “simple” is the name of the game, especially in the “beauty” department! If I set the bar too high here, it’s easy to throw in the towel and end up running around messy-bunned and mascara-less.

Don’t get me wrong, I am fine with a blank-canvas-face and I’m not judging you if you’re not wearing mascara right now (in fact, I’m mascara-less, stinky and messy-bunned at this very moment). But truth be told, when I take the time to “pretty up” a bit, my husband notices and appreciates it, I feel more beautiful and in turn more confident with my day and the impact I’m having on life. It’s a great thing. And it only takes a couple of minutes!

What’s the deal with “chemical free”?

I’ve taken steps to overhaul my beauty routine over the last several years to make sure that what I’m putting onto my skin (our largest organ!) isn’t going to bite me later.

If you’re curious about how “toxic-free” your beauty products rank, you can enter them into the Skin Deep database sponsored by the Environmental Working Group. If there’s a product that you’re not pleased with, make a point to replace it with something more pure the next time you need to purchase! There are so many great natural and chemical free products hitting the market and they’re making great strides with perfecting these formulas so that you truly won’t notice the difference between the “natural version” and it’s traditional, potentially toxic counterpart.

So, I’ve timed this, and I can whip up a bit of mineral makeup in 5-7 minutes. Even if you’ve got little ones pulling on your pant legs, you can work this into your schedule!

So now, without further adieu, check out this quick video of my current makeup routine. Know that I’m not a makeup artist, I’m just a mom, working to look and feel her best with what this time and season permits!

I’ve got some Rejuva Mascara to give away!!! Post below – what are your favorite chemical-free beauty products OR why are you interested in taking steps toward toxic free for a chance to WIN!!!

P.S. These are the websites I get makeup from (and they aren’t paying me to tell you):

Alima Pure – Love their powder foundation – they actually make a color that’s light enough for me. Also love their blush (however, their mascara smears on me).

Rejuva Minerals – MASCARA.

Tarte – Concealer stick! They have many other wonderful products – visit Sephora or Ulta and they’ll do a Tarte makeover and you can know for sure which products work best for you.

Bite Beauty – well-pigmented lipsticks/gloss that’s good enough to eat (which is pretty much what happens with lipstick anyway)!

Thank you for sharing your expertise on this! I have been having bad reactions to my makeup lately and know it is due to their not-so-green ingredients. I cannot wait to find more natural products that will stay on all day and make my skin feel amazing!

Nicely done! How easy is it to wash the mascara off if it’s water resistant? I’ve tried a few brands before and don’t like how difficult they are to get off.

    • callie October 28, 2015 at 1:23 pm

Yes! I’m pleased with how it comes off!

Very good! What did you put on your eyebrows? I did not catch that and have had trouble finding something that works for me and looks narural like yours seems to look.

I love my Tarte cosmetics. I wear makeup every day and have learned over the past year or two how important it is to make sure that my skin care products are truly quality. Thanks for sharing about some other good brands, too!

Great video Callie! I love your confidence and encouragement for moms to keep it simple but love themselves. Loved all these suggestions, as I go to reorder whatever makeup runs out next, I’m definitely going to give these a try, that concealer looks great! I use mostly natural mineral makeup from Youngblood, but that mascara, oh my goodness I cannot let go of my toxic mascara from Blinc that never ever runs. Definitely going to give the rejuva a try!

I’ve started using sweet savvy minerals! Love my Arbonne mascara, but haven’t checked all the ingredients. Thanks for the tips!

  • Amber October 28, 2015 at 1:57 pm

I am a huge fan of Tarte. I use the tartelette pallet quite frequently. You mentioned two brands I am not familiar with, so i will have to check those out. Thanks

I have not earnestly searched for a more natural make-up. I very seldom wear any. One of the things I love to use in my daily routine is my coconut oil with lavender and frankincense mixed in as my face lotion.

  • Kendra October 28, 2015 at 2:59 pm

I just recently switched to root pretty makeup. I was using bare minerals buy my face was starting to break out. So I tried root pretty. I really like it so far and I get so many compliments now about my makeup.

Love that you covered this! Really helpful in a department I’ve been wanting to work on!

  • Cindi October 28, 2015 at 3:28 pm

Thank you Callie. Loved the info about being careful to have a good lotion when adding oils so bad things don’t get pulled into skin. Also love that I am using YL Sandlewood so I know I am safe. Are the foundation products sold is stores so that I can find a color that works? Have not had good luck buying without trying.

  • Britni Tatum October 28, 2015 at 3:39 pm

Loved this! I love my tarte cosmetics but I haven’t heard of the other ones you mentioned. Might give them a shot! Would love to try the mascara!

  • SARAH October 28, 2015 at 4:03 pm

Almost everything I use is from Signature Minerals. I’ve been using their mineral products for probably around 10 years. I’ve never been able to find a natural mascara that I love though.

I shy away from all makeup. But…if there are healthier alternatives… ! šŸ˜€

  • Sharon Gore October 28, 2015 at 4:33 pm

In my home, we have been working to go “chemical free.” I’ve been thinking about the make-up I use, and I’m sure there are toxic ingredients in them….soooo, I will be trying to replace my make-up with non-toxic products. Thank you for this wonderful information! God bless you, Sharon

  • Jeanne October 28, 2015 at 5:21 pm

Thank you so much for the recommendations and the video! I have been wanting to find some nontoxic makeup. I finally tossed out all my pre-cancer toxin-filled stuff. The concealer and mascara I tried from the local natural food store I am not crazy about for one reason or another. So I will try your suggestions! And if I win the mascara, that ould be icing on the cake!

  • Heather Nienhueser October 28, 2015 at 5:43 pm
