10 Essential Steps to Defining Success

I just swallowed my last sip of tea from a cozy warm mug. I’m snuggled on the sofa with my extra cushy robe – the one I whip out when the temperature drops, as Ivy sleeps peacefully in her swing after her early morning feeding.

Funny how ready to conquer the world you can feel when everyone is asleep.

I’m thinking about “success” and what my definition of success truly is.

Do you have a definition for your version?

I find that I fall into the category of people who is a bit more reluctant to verbalize specifics when it comes to mapping out goals, vision or defining success because that means I need to live up to those expectations.

Which isn’t a bad thing.

But it also means that I might fail.

It means that things might get uncomfortable on the journey to live out my vision.

And I’m pretty sure the enemy wins, NOT if he tempts me to live an ugly life (because I’m waaaaaaay smarter than that).

He wins as long as he shuts me down or distracts me enough to avoid living my BEST life.

And the way I see it, we are living our one and only life right now.

So let’s figure out how to make the most of it, shall we.

I’ve been reading, re-reading and doing a devotional about the Proverbs 31 woman.

She’s the epitome of success to me.

Pretty much a unicorn.

And even though unicorns scare me a little, I want to be just like her when I grow up.

She is the ultimate barometer of true success.

Check it out:

1. She’s an amazing wife – supporting her husband and his pursuits and is a person he can confide in and trust.

2. She is an entrepreneurial boss – buying, selling, and making a profit with her handmade goods and by investing in real estate (a field, vineyard).

3. She’s wise and speaks with kindness and wisdom.

4. She’s compassionate and opens her hands to the poor.

5. She’s looks ahead and plans for the future – winter doesn’t take her by surprise and everyone has what they need for the changing season.

6. She’s an early riser and manages the people under her well. Oh and her candle doesn’t got out at night, either. Not sure how she pulled this off, but it sounds like she used her time well when the kids were sleeping.

7. She’s a hard worker and is fit and trim – she makes her arms strong.

8. She takes care of herself – makes sure that she herself is pulled together with something nice to wear and “strength and dignity are her clothing”.

9. She manages her household well and stewards her time wisely – no bread of idleness or Netflix binging for her!

10. Her children love her and call her blessed – they didn’t need therapy when they grew up because she neglected their childhood while pursing all the other things.

When I read this, I see someone who pursued her best life, found joy in living it and who left a legacy of kindness, wisdom, and love.

Yes, its slightly annoying that she was so amazing.

But unicorn or not, this is still what I want to be.

And while I won’t rock ever verse of this every single day, there are things that I can do in at least one of these areas to move me forward in my quest for success.

What’s one area that you can invest in today to move you toward living your best life?!

Enjoy the journey,

Callie
